Centering Prayer Intro Workshop
Time: 9:30 am - 3:00 pm
Location: 6715 North Mockingbird Lane

For many contemporary Christians the thought of “Christian meditation” sounds like an oxymoron. “Meditation” some think, is either a “new Age” practice, or the purview of Eastern non-Christian religions. Though such a perspective is certainly understandable, it couldn’t be more mistaken or unfortunate. Christian Meditation was the goal of Christian prayer and spirituality for the first sixteen centuries of the Church. Unfortunately, following the Enlightenment with its over-emphasis upon strictly rational paradigms, the Western Church slowly but surely lost its mystical worldview and with it, the practice of Christian meditation. The early Christian tradition referred to “meditation” as “contemplation”, and contemplative prayer was the desire of habitually praying Christians. In modern times the practice of Centering Prayer was developed to help us recover our rich contemplative heritage and the fruits of a regular practice of contemplative prayer----transforming interior peace and the infusion of the Holy Spirit equipping us to live ordinary life with extraordinary grace.
